What is Possum Trot?

Possum Trot is a town located in East Texas, right on the Louisiana border. The community is mostly home to deeply religious, working class African Americans. In the heart of the community lies Bennett Chapel, a place of worship for the local baptists.

In 1998, something monumental happened that would soon make national news.

What Happened in Possum Trot?

Resident of Possum Trot Donna Martin, the star of our film and a real-life hero, felt compelled to adopt. With her conviction, she inspired her husband, the reverend at Bennett Chapel, and her local community to take up the charge to fight for kids too! By the end of it all, 22 families adopted 77 of the most difficult-to-place foster kids.

Soon, word got out about the life-changing generosity of this humble community! Donna and Reverend Martin and their selfless community were featured in national news outlets as the world looked in awe at their real, determined love.
