About the Cast and Filmmakers
John Burke is the author of the New York Times bestseller Imagine Heaven, along with No Perfect People Allowed, Soul Revelation, and Unshockable Love. He and his wife Kathy founded Gateway Church, a multisite church based in Austin, TX, that helps people explore faith. As an international speaker, John has addressed hundreds of thousands of people in thirty countries on topics of leadership, spiritual growth, and the exhilarating life to come. John and Kath have two children and two grandchildren.
Dr. Mary Neal is an analytical, board-certified orthopedic spine surgeon whose spiritual skepticism was transformed when she was trapped underwater for almost thirty minutes. She died and had a profound near-death experience in which she was held by Jesus, taken to heaven, experienced God’s pure love, and gained profound insight into many of life’s big questions. The remarkable story she shares is one of hope and great joy.
Michael Sabom is a cardiologist in private practice and on staff at Northside and Saint Joseph's Hospitals in Atlanta, GA. His first book, Recollections of Death: A Medical Investigation, is considered to be a landmark in the field of near-death research. His second book, Light & Death: One Doctor’s Fascinating Account of Near Death Experiences, is based on his work founding The Atlanta Study, the first comprehensive investigation of its kind into near-death experiences. He has been featured on ABC's 20-20, NBC's Dateline, CBS's 48 Hours, CNN-TV, and in Focus on the Family's Physician magazine and major newspapers nationwide.
Dr Long is a radiation oncology physician practicing in Kentucky. Over 25 years ago he founded the Near-Death Experience Research Foundation (NDERF, nderf.org). Dr. Long has investigated over 4,000 near-death experiences (NDEs), which is by far the largest number of NDEs ever scientifically studied. The results of his previous research were published in the New York Times bestselling book Evidence of the Afterlife: The Science of Near-Death Experiences. Portions of the NDERF website have been translated into over 30 different languages allowing the largest cross-cultural study of NDEs in history. Millions of people have seen Dr. Long discuss his research on shows, including the NBC Today Show, The Dr. Oz Show, National Geographic television, History Channel, The O’Reilly Factor, CBS Inside Edition, and television broadcasts around the world.
Dr. Moody coined the term Near-Death Experience in his book Life after Life. For half a century he has researched some of life’s greatest mysteries. With both a PhD in philosophy and an MD, he has a strong interest in how medical realities intersect with the ineffable realm of philosophy. As an author, professor, public speaker and grief counselor, he has heard thousands of accounts of near death, shared death, and after death experiences. In his book Glimpses of Eternity, he discusses the phenomena of shared death experiences.
Dale Black is a former airline pilot instructor and commercial pilot who has flown all over the world. On July 18 1969, Dale became the only survivor of a horrific airplane crash in Burbank, California when their twin-engine plane struck the 100-foot-tall Portal of the Folded Wings building at 135 mph and disintegrated. Following the crash, he experienced an incredible journey to heaven and back. Dale has a BA degree from Point Loma Nazarene University, a PhD in Business, and an earned MA in Theology. He later retired as an airline pilot instructor, jet captain, FAA designated examiner and aviation accident prevention counselor. He is married to Paula, and they have two grown children. On his way home in 1989, Don Piper’s car was hit head-on by a semi truck. Emergency personnel responded and pronounced him dead on the scene. A passing minister received permission to enter Don’s car and began praying over the lifeless body. Ninety minutes later, Don returned to life on earth with vivid memories of God’s perfect place—Heaven. Thirty-four operations and years of recovery forced Don and his family to find a “new normal.” His inspirational story and book 90 Minutes in Heaven have touched millions around the globe, helping many to find hope following tragedy and loss.
Howard is a former professor and chairman of the Art Department at Northern Kentucky University. In 2000, he authored My Descent Into Death, which chronicles his near-death experience in June 1985, when he took a group of his students on a field trip to Europe and lost consciousness after being diagnosed with a duodenal perforation. Storm's near-death experience has been cited in literature on near-death studies, and his book has garnered endorsement by gothic fiction writer Anne Rice. Storm has retold his story on NBC's Today Show, The Oprah Winfrey Show, 48 Hours, Discovery Channel, and Coast to Coast AM.
Stephen Gray is a multidisciplinary filmmaker based out of Winnipeg, Canada. He’s currently producing a feature documentary for Amazon Studios and his latest documentary, After Death, releases in theaters October 27th across Canada and the United States. This film explores one of life's biggest mysteries, "what happens when we die?" with New York Times bestselling authors, doctors, scientists, and survivors. Jens Jacob is a producer from Los Angeles and is the founder of Sypher, a commercial and music video production company and Co-Founder of Sypher Studios a full service original content studio. Jens has taken his production expertise to over 33 countries working on commercials, feature documentaries, and live events.
Jens is also a serial entrepreneur who has started drone, gear, logistics, and software companies over the past few years. He has a number of feature narrative and documentary films currently in development and production.
Jason is the Co-Founder and Executive Producer of Sypher Studios, a boutique full-content studio with offices in Los Angeles and Seattle. He’s produced content with Steph Curry and Jada Pinkett Smith and worked with Academy Award winners like Laura Dern and Golden Globe winners Paul Walter Hauser, Michael C. Hall, and Annette Benning. He's produced multiple theatrically released documentaries with New York Times Bestselling Authors and poignant stories around human trafficking and climate change.
