The Guild Score: What Angel Studios Is Doing Differently From Every Other Studio

For far too long, the movies and shows that hit the screen have been selected by a handful of elite Hollywood gatekeepers. Audiences, however, are growing tired of this outdated model. Angel Studios is flipping the script and giving the people the shows and films they actually want to watch—and it’s all made possible by members of the Angel Guild.

What Is the Angel Guild? 

Angel Studios offers so much more than your average streaming service. Those who belong to our exclusive membership, called the Angel Guild, not only enjoy a robust library of uplifting content but also play a key role in the projects that come to Angel Studios. When you join the Angel Guild, you become an entertainment executive with the power to choose what gets made.

When you become part of the Angel Guild, you gain access to an exclusive dashboard on the Angel app and website, in which you can view and vote on Torches, or ideas for new shows and movies submitted by filmmakers. Your votes and feedback help to refine each idea until it’s accepted by enough Guild members, and begins production and/or distribution via Angel Studios. 

What Is the Guild Score? 

When you vote on a Torch as part of the Angel Guild, you contribute to the project’s Guild score. A measurement of the audience’s passion for and support of a potential film or show, the Guild score is the deciding factor that determines whether a project will either come to fruition or will need to be refined and resubmitted for further voting. The Guild score will also closely predict what a potential film’s Rotten Tomatoes audience score would be.

How Is the Guild Score Calculated?

When you cast your vote on a Torch as part of the Angel Guild, you’ll be asked to rate the project in terms of how well it amplifies light. At Angel Studios, we define light as anything that is true, honest, noble, just, authentic, lovely, admirable, and excellent. Each voter is asked the following questions about each Torch:

• Does this project amplify light? 

  • Yes

  • No

  • Neutral 

• How would you feel if this never became an Angel Studios movie? 

  • Very disappointed

  • Somewhat disappointed

  • Not disappointed (it’s not that good)

With the votes that are collected, each project receives a score between 1-100. Each Torch must receive a score of at least 70 to pass and come to fruition; each project’s score directly reflects its favorability among audience members.
