How to Amplify Good Content in the Guild 

Our foremost goal at Angel Studios is to amplify light through entertainment. As a member of the Angel Guild, you get to join in on the selection of shows and movies that become part of the Angel Studios catalog. This can seem like a big job, but rest assured: There are only a few key pointers to remember so you can vote successfully in the Guild, and greenlight only the best content.

1. Watch & Notice

When you go to vote in the Angel app, you’ll start by watching a clip of a proposed project. As you watch, remember your purpose: to promote good, high-quality content that amplifies light. During the clip, notice how you react to the content and how you initially feel. This is important, as first impressions are everything!

2. Look for Best Practices

You don’t have to be a Spielberg or a Nolan to spot a good film or show when you see it. Keep an eye out for some key elements of filmmaking and how they’re executed in the content. Does the plot feel slow, or is the pacing palatable? Is it simple to follow? Is the dialogue easy to understand? Are the shots visually appealing, and is the content appropriate for the project’s intended audience?

3. Remember: You’re the Audience 

Make no mistake: As a member of the Angel Guild, you are a film hotshot. But even as you’re setting up your director’s chair and perusing the craft service table, remember that you’re another type of key stakeholder: a member of the audience! Promote content that you enjoy, and that (with a little refining) you would personally pay to stream or see in the theater.

4. Does It Amplify Light?

As you’ve learned by now, Angel Studios aims to amplify light in all that we promote, distribute, and create. We define light as whatever is true, honest, noble, just, authentic, lovely, admirable, and excellent. Make sure to vote for content in the Guild that reflects these qualities and uplifts you.

5. Compare to Your Favorites

We all have a favorite movie or TV show (many of us have several). You like your favorite content for a reason; so, as you’re watching and voting in the Angel Guild, compare what you see to entertainment you already enjoy. The clips and snippets you see in the app may not be as polished or high-budget as your go-to network sitcom, but they have the potential to be! Compare their core concepts, strengths, and weaknesses to those of your favorite movies and shows. Remember, you are greenlighting the next era of entertainment. It's okay to be picky!

6. Give Great Feedback

Even your most beloved Angel Studios releases didn’t start all shiny and ready-to-watch. They underwent extensive processes filled with edits, rewrites, feedback, rinsing, and repeating. As a member of the Angel Guild, one of your most important tasks is to give honest, constructive feedback to the filmmakers whose submissions you review. Be as detailed as you can in your comments, explaining exactly what you liked/didn’t like, and how they can improve their content to make it more worth watching.
