MoveOnPAC

MoveOn PAC is a grassroots political action organization with more than 2.8 million volunteers nationwide. During election season, MoveOn has thousands of volunteers in the field collecting donations, increasing candidate awareness, and driving supporters to the polls.

moveonAs a non-profit 501(c)(4) organization, MoveOn is continually faced with the challenge of optimizing efficiency and minimizing overhead costs. Although the organization has a highly effective web-based system for inputting data, processing donations, and tracking results, MoveOn lacked an organized method for its members to obtain technical support via the phone.

The organization began exploring Interactive Voice Response (IVR) to handle its technical support needs, but did not want to commit to investing in hardware or software based solutions. MoveOn also needed a flexible pricing model because of their highly seasonal call volume that peaks during election season but tapers off dramatically the rest of the year.

MoveOn found Angel just three weeks before Election Day 2004. Angel.com seemed like a good choice because of its on-demand approach to IVR and pay-as-you-go pricing model, but MoveOn worried that a solution could not possibly be deployed in time for the upcoming election efforts.

Angel's Solutions Team went immediately to work, and had a solution deployed just two days after initial contact with MoveOn. Eli Pariser, Executive Director of MoveOn PAC explains the experience: "The Angel.com team did an incredible job of quickly providing an efficient solution with very little up-front cost."

With Angel, whenever a MoveOn volunteer needs technical support they can call a toll-free number which will route them to an available volunteer that can resolve the issue. The technical support volunteers can make themselves available by "checking in" to the system, and then "checking out" when they have to leave. There are as many as 70 volunteers checked in to the support line at any given time.

MoveOn's regional organizers praise the Angel solution because it removes the tech support burden from them and leaves more time for serving the organization's primary goal: recruiting voters. "We had been exploring telephony applications for some time, but weren't able to find a vendor that would allow us to deploy applications quickly, and for short timeframes, without committing to buying hardware and software solutions or committing to high minimum payments. With Angel.com, these issues were not a concern," says Pariser.
